Performance Day Video

Thank you Andrew Hawryshkewich for putting together this beautiful video of our performance day

Thank you for an amazing day!

Wow!

It was so great to see it all come together, and to share our love of art with those around us.

We can’t say THANK YOU enough to those who came out and performed, volunteered and supported us through this project (Kensington Community Centre Association and The Vancouver Park Board). You guys are amazing. And a special THANK YOU to Sophie, our Kensington liaison extraordinaire.

There were lots of photographers at the event and we are starting to collect the images on a flicr page to share them. If you would like to post your images on the Habitat 2012 site, please email them to bodynarratives@gmail.com and we would be happy to post them for you there. We already have a great set up from Sol, the digital photography instructor at Kensington.

We hope you are feeling inspired to create art and to share it, as we could all feel, it makes our community vibrant and our habitat healthy.

Its all coming together

Tomorrow is our dress rehearsal for the Habitat performance event.

Many elements are quickly coming together.

We are excited to meet and work with the volunteers, performers and practice the performance for the big day!

If you are involved tomorrow, we meet at 1:30pm in the multi-purpose room.

Check out these great photos from Maggie’s crafting session with the Out of School Care Program. There are budding artists in our midst. Their work will be set up in an interactive display on the roof top patio on June 3rd.

Reaching out in the community

We are working hard to get ready for the big performance day on June 3rd.

Last week Maggie joined up with the Cultural Buddies Program at the South Vancouver Neighborhood House located in Fleming Elementary School. These 25 talented youth between the ages of 8-15 created a inspiring floral landscape for our Hawaiian dancers to perform in.

And, on May 10th Julia joined members of the community at Kensington’s annual Move For Health Day. To celebrate the importance of regular physical activity for Canadians of all ages, community members paraded the dragon around the neighborhood adding some extra colour and fun to this sunny day.

Creation and Research in the pool continues….

We are continuing to explore together how to animate the puppets in the pool, and what kinds of movements work best to create our aquatic dance. All sorts of great ideas are surfacing! There is still time to get involved if you’d like to join us for the performance on June 3rd. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights from 9-9:30pm and/or Sunday afternoons from 3-5pm in May.

Aquatic Dance Creation has begun

We are having a great time in the pool working with the water dragon and fish puppets. There is still time to get involved if you’d like to participate in the performance on June 3rd. Creation rehearsals are in the pool on Sunday’s in May from 3-5pm and/or Tuesday night’s after aqua-fit finishes from 9-9:30pm. Dress rehearsal is at 1:30pm on May 27th and performances 2:30-4:30pm on June 3rd. It’s fun, it’s free, and you can reap the benefits of hydrotherapy while staying active (there is also a hot tub and sauna). Call 604-718-6201 to RSVP. For queries email bodynarratives@gmail.com

The Dragon’s Head and Mural Painting

Great work last week Habitat friends.

We got started on the frame for the dragon’s head and painted 3 beautiful murals to decorate the centre on the day of the performance. This Sunday April 22nd is our last day to craft in the multi-purpose room. We will be completing the dragon’s head, painting, decorating for Earth Day and making some small hand puppets.

We’d love your help! Drop in between 2:30-4:30pm and share your creativity.
